The fields are bright, and the fields are white
Down on the old plantation, And the darkies chant, and the darkies pant
Some lullaby incantation; And the blossoms blow, and the blossoms grow

The blackbird swings, and the blackbird sings
His morning incantation, And the hawthorn white, is a cheery sight,
